Fact-Check: Is Burkina Faso’s President Constructing Low-Cost Housing?

A widely circulated video on social media claims that Burkina Faso’s president is transforming the country with various development projects, including the construction of low-cost houses. The video has gained significant traction on Facebook and YouTube.

Verification

To verify this claim, we analyzed the video published by The Inpirational Ark, a page with 113,000 followers on Facebook. At the time of verification, the video had amassed 2.8 million views, 60,900 reactions, 2,600 comments, and 7,900 shares. Additionally, Dikoding Deception examined a similar video uploaded on YouTube by ERIC TV GH.

We further verified the video using Invid & WeVerify tools, google and Yandex reverse image search tool to analyze the kayframes in the video. The construction site seen in the video shows that it’s in Algeria not Burkina Faso as claimed.

Conclusion

The claim that Burkina Faso’s president is overseeing the construction of low-cost housing, as depicted in the viral video, is false. The footage originates from Algeria, not Burkina Faso.
